Mutual Matters: Why We Do What We Do

MagMutual PolicyOwners:

During my first year as chair of the MagMutual Board of Directors, I have been amazed and humbled by the commitment of the employees, executive team and my fellow board members. The work they accomplish each day ensures you — the PolicyOwners — have access to the best insurance products, advice, service, and if needed, legal defense, in the industry.

Their dedication to placing your interests at the forefront of all that we do has led to our unmatched growth. While I am privileged to see this enthusiasm, I acknowledge the undertakings of an insurance company are unfamiliar to many of you.

Part of my role as chair is to provide PolicyOwners with insight and understanding about the strategies, resources and process — though occurring in the background — that help bring our products to market.

While you may be aware of these products — maybe you checked out the complimentary UpToDate offer or the advice resources found on our website — I think it is important you know what goes on “behind the curtain” at MagMutual.

Why? Well …

The idea of sharing this information is less an academic exercise and more an expression of the mutuality of this endeavor. Yes, it’s literally in our name: MagMutual. We are a mutual insurance company — your mutual insurance company. We are owned by, and working for you, our PolicyOwners.

Sharing information about how your company is managed and governed is mission critical. We’re not just an outstanding financial institution — which we are! — but ultimately here to serve you.

Toward that end, I will be providing regular updates here on the internal processes at MagMutual. Specifically, I will highlight how the board of directors governs the overall operations of the company.

Please stay tuned as we share more about your company. If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Bill Kanich, MD, JD
